AND JESUS SAID
AN EXPLORATIONAL EXPOSITION OF THE PARABLES OF JESUS
MARK 4:33-34
Jesus taught a great deal in parables. A parable is an illustration, a story that is designed to teach a lesson. Jesus used them frequently and cited the common culture, norms, and situation of the time he was in so as to teach the listeners in terms they would understand.
Jesus's parables are seemingly simple and memorable stories, often with imagery, and all convey messages. Although some parables seem simple, the messages they convey are deep, and central to the teachings of Jesus.
Many of Jesus's parables refer to simple everyday things, such as a woman baking bread (the parable of the Leaven), a man knocking on his neighbor's door at night (the parable of the Friend at Night), or the aftermath of a roadside mugging (the parable of the Good Samaritan); yet they deal with major religious themes, such as the growth of the Kingdom of God, the importance of prayer, and the meaning of love
"And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow"
Matthew 13:3
